This site has links to significant research that has been conducted over the last five years or so in relation to School Lib Media Spec (SLMS).  Of particular interest to me are the ones involving Ross Todd – because he’s been given a good ‘rap’ as a speaker and I’m going to his presentation with Lyn Hay (who I have previously enjoyed hearing speak), at the end of this month.  Through the 90’s TLs in Qld. Primary schools  were encouraged to reduce their face-to-face with mid/upper grades – only to work with the students following unit planning and collaboration with the class-teacher.  Mostly time was a factor and money to release for in-school planning.  Essentially the intension was there – but perhaps the evidence-base wasn’t – to keep driving the ‘push’ for the collaboration.  Anyway, it fell into the ‘too-hard’ basket and very little collaboration between teachers and TLs occurred. It’s an example of how important the sharing of experiences and ‘good practice’ it to creating a flow-on effect.  With the Web 2.0 advantage hopefully this will change for the better – and improved student learning!!
